How do I find out what a cast iron wood burning stove is worth?
It is from Lacrosse, Wi.. It was used on a steam engine train...I'm assuming it is at least 80 years old...
Look for makings, company names, dates and #'s and Go ogle it.
This is pretty standard for most cast iron older items. Some also have very small letters hidden. Ironwork was essential to our growing country when cast iron stoves were popular- no stove- no hot food!
Catalogues list the values if you are lucky enough to get the ID letters off of them. Some of these catalogues are online now to determine the values in different conditions.
They usually have some identifying markings as companies took pride in their work. For a lot of companies now you can find the exact date that a piece was made by looking up the serial # and company.
